Fire Up the Grill with GMR
While staying with Georgia Mountain Rentals, most guests plan at least one dinner on the cabin grill. The first image that comes to mind is a thick juicy steak with new potatoes roasting on the back side. Jazz up your meal with a variety of flavors and fresh vegetables.
Visit one of the local produce stands or Saturday morning Farmer's Markets for a change in the menu. You'll find Betty's Country Store in Helen, The City Butcher and Seafood in Clarkesville, and The Tomato House on Highway 115 between Cleveland and Dahlonega. Saturday morning Farmer's Markets run in Cleveland, Clarkesville, and Dahlonega for locally grown, often organic, vegetables.
Easy ideas for vegetables on the grill
Corn on the Cob
Pull the husk down to the end of the cob, leaving it attached. Remove silks and wash. Cover with butter and your favorite herb, then pull the husk back up and around the corn. Fresh thyme works beautifully with Silver Queen Corn. Cilantro, basil, and tarragon are good too.
Grilled Okra
Use medium to larger okra. Carefully cut the stem at the top without going below the cap line. Wash and dry well. Drizzle with olive oil and toss with salt and pepper. Place on the grill, turning often, until the color turns vivid green.
Grilled Zucchini
Go for small to medium zucchini, deep green and blemish free. Wash, slice in half, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Turn at least four times to cook evenly.
Brussel Sprouts with Garlic
Wash and remove outer layers. Cut in half and toss in a large bowl with garlic, salt, and pepper. Use a perforated flat grill pan or vegetable basket to keep pieces from falling through.
Grilled Asparagus
A flat grill pan works best. Wash, clean, and drizzle with melted butter. Add salt and pepper to taste.
All Georgia Mountain Rentals cabins and chalets have either a gas grill or charcoal grill for guests. We'd love to hear about your dinners and see pictures of your grilling experience in the Georgia mountains!
